The 2023 RegTech Convention

Held under the motto “The Balancing Act of Reg and Tech”, the 2023 convention questioned how effectively regulation and technology has combined to help forge a more secure and stable world as events such as the 2007-2010 subprime crisis, the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the current global economic turmoil, and the more recent financial market incidents had opened the door to critical thinking.

We discussed if regulation has become too complex and costly to be effective, and looked at the consequences of digital transformation, questioning if fintech innovation has proved more of a challenge for FSIs to anticipate negative events, or an opportunity to improve responsiveness to evolving requirements.

Trends and developments in macroeconomics and the outlook for Regulatory Reporting

In view of a challenging economic environment, we were honored to have Anders Borg, former Swedish Minister of Finance (2006-2014). During his time in office he was responsible for wide ranging reforms of the tax and welfare system. He managed the economy during the great financial crisis (2007-2008) and was deeply involved in finding solutions to the Euro area crisis.

Supervision Re-imagined: How Technology Can Change Supervisory Engagement

Brandon Milhorn is Deputy to Vice Chairman Travis Hill at FDIC. He previously served as Chief of Staff and Chief Operating Officer for Chairman Jelena McWilliams.
Prior to the FDIC, Mr. Milhorn was Acting Vice President of Government Relations for Raytheon Company. From 2003 to 2011, he served in several positions in the United States Senate, including Republican Staff Director and Chief Counsel on the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and General Counsel for the Select Committee on Intelligence.
